The FA Cup semi-final second replay between Aston Villa and Everton, played at the City Ground, Nottingham on March 29th 1905, with 25,000 present. The grass looks long and uneven by today's standards!

The stand opposite is the East Stand, redeveloped on several occasions and now the site of the Executive Stand. The Football Post was one of two Saturday evening papers that printed the day's results soon after the games had ended, thanks to the electric telegraph.

Note that Villa's goalkeeper George wears the same coloured shirt as his colleagues! Nine Villa players can be seen in the picture. The defensive strategy must have worked, as Villa won the game 2-1 and went on to beat Newcastle United in the final at the Crystal Palace.
